In the summer of 2015, two convicted murderers, Richard Matt and David Sweat, escaped from the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York. The escape sparked a massive manhunt that lasted for three weeks and involved over 1,000 law enforcement officers.

Matt and Sweat were both serving life sentences for their crimes. Matt had been convicted of murdering a man in 1997, while Sweat had been convicted of murdering a sheriff's deputy in 2002. The two men had been planning their escape for months, and they used power tools to cut through the walls of their cells.

The escape was discovered on June 6, 2015, when guards noticed that Matt and Sweat were missing from their cells. The authorities immediately launched a manhunt, but the two men were able to evade capture for three weeks.

During their time on the run, Matt and Sweat terrorized the residents of northern New York. They broke into cabins and stole food and supplies. They also stole a car and led police on a high-speed chase.

On June 28, 2015, Matt and Sweat were finally captured in the town of Malone, New York. They were both shot and killed by police.

The escape of Matt and Sweat was a major embarrassment for the New York State Department of Corrections. It also raised questions about the security of the state's prisons.

The story of Matt and Sweat's escape is a gripping tale of crime and punishment. It is a story that will stay with you long after you finish reading it.
